Throughout my childhood, I have created many rituals throughout my life. I wanted to explore the rituals that I have adapted recently and when I was younger, while also experimenting with different mediums that I wouldn’t usually choose. My first piece resembles my love for watching sunsets. It has become a ritual of mine for when I feel anxious and watching the sunset reminds me that I am just there to watch, which is why I included myself in the piece made up of sunsets with a shadow cast over myself. I used collage for this piece and included pictures that I had taken of the sunset for a more realistic touch. For my second piece, I wanted to bring back one of my old rituals that has always been close to me with the saying “See you in the morning time” which was what I would say before going to bed. It’s a nostalgic saying for me and being able to re-create it in this piece as one of my rituals reminded me of how much it meant to me even though it was very simple, hence the simpleness of the piece. For my last piece, I wanted to do one of my more recent rituals which is drinking my tea every morning. I created this piece using tea tones throughout the watercolor to keep it all very uniform throughout the piece. It has become a ritual of mine and it's just a simple ritual that continues the importance of rituals in my life. Creating these pieces allowed me to recognize how influential my every-day rituals have become to me.
