The essential question that I portrayed my art around was: How do I explore the design process. My inspiration came from my passion for fashion. I’ve grown up around fashion and clothes my whole life with my mom owning a clothing store. I have had first-hand experience of the design process when I traveled with my mom to market. I was able to see patterns and designs. These details connect to a story or a season. For my project, I wanted to go through the steps of the design process. For my first two projects, I decided to choose two of my classmates as my muse or inspiration for the designs and patterns that resemble them. I started by asking them a list of questions that then helped me create a Pinterest board with clothes, prints, and aesthetics that reminded me of them. From there, I created designs and patterns that would suit them. For the final aspect, I drew a design and used watercolor to create it. I created a mood board to display my thought process For my next few projects, I wanted to do something more about my style and the process of it. My third project was based on my favorite pattern: cow print. I created designs based on that print and other colors that would compliment it. For my latest project, I searched through magazines and picked colors or clothing that I liked. While picking through magazines, I knew I wanted to do something for a resort. After, I created designs based off of the magazine clippings. From there, I created my own designs or patterns for the clothing line. In the end, I pasted everything together onto a board to show the viewer my process. Throughout the year working on my pieces, I’ve developed a good understanding of the design process. I’ve put myself into the role of some of my idols and hope to one day be doing this as my career.
