How can I explore my personal history and heritage through art? This question became the focus for my art during my senior year. In my projects, I decided to depict people, objects, and ideas that have shaped and impacted who I am as a person. It is my goal to share my personal history and story with my audience.

I began with a colored pencil portrait of my sister and I, someone who has been my role model for my whole life, although I don’t always like to admit to it. In the background of this portrait, I decided to create a collage of our personalities. Together, we are an array of colors, sometimes weird, crazy, loving, and overpowering. I also took time detailing our hair, as that is something my sister and I have in common. My next piece is an ink printing of my grandmother. I decided to recreate this image of my grandmother because she is the tie to my Jamaican roots and she has also made me the woman I am today. I then decided to do a paper cut of my house on Jay Street as it is a symbol of my life and family.
